History

Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal is one of the oldest educational institute in the state of Goa established in 1911 with the objective to spread education to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion and race. Currently Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal runs six schools, two Higher Secondary schools, College of Commerce and College of Education.

All our educational institutes are located in Ponda and its surrounding areas. GVM’s Utkarsh Vidyamandir is located in Ponda town. Ponda is centrally located town in Goa and is well connected to the capital city of Panaji and hinterland of Goa.

Ponda has a number of schools and colleges including Government College of Engineering and College of Pharmacy.

There was however not a single school affiliated to CISCE and the nearest ICSE school was 25 kms away, therefore keeping in view the aspiration of people of Ponda to get their children educated under the comprehensive curriculum of CISCE, GVM took the initiative to establish GVM’s Utkarsh Vidyamandir and Government of Goa granted its approval and affiliation of CISCE was granted in 2021. The primary school in English medium was started in 1974 and the classes from V std onwards were started from 2017.

GVM’s Utkarsh Vidyamandir has a building with all amenities which was newly constructed and inaugurated on June 4, 2017 by the then honourable Chief minister of Goa and former defence minister late Shri Manohar Parrikar.
